Description: Welcome to Harlequin Canon- a show where each week we explore a different obscure subgenre of music and dust off the musical canon, revealing unknown and forgotten bands that helped define music. Like other art, musical aesthetics and styles are a palimpsest of older ideas--so I'll do my best to unravel those histories! I know there are a lot of birders in Victoria who may be thinking of the harlequin duck— a small duck of fast-flowing streams around the Arctic and North Pacific—but the name of the show actually refers to Harlequin, a playful clown-like figure traditionally used in silent pantomime, with a history going all the way back to pre-medieval European folklore. This show is for all the music nerds out there, hopefully it will enirch your evening sonorously. Listen to a STREAM of last week’s program:

Description: Hosted by two metalheads with an insatiable hunger for all things loud and heavy, we take our listeners along with us on our treacherous encounters with the underground. Here's how it works: we used to pick a different subgenre of metal every week to explore, but we got bored of that... Mainly because Hunter wanted to fit in blackened crossover thrash bands and could never find an appropriate week to include that. Tune in, listen to our discussions, and take the plunge with us; bringing lanterns and some sort of weapon is encouraged, the underground is dark and deadly.

Description: I play video game, animated tv shows and movie soundtracks on CFUV 101.9 FM to fill the void between anime and comic conventions right here in Victoria, B.C. From the orchestral music of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate to the atmospheric haunting tunes of Dishonored to the calming sounds of Far Cry 4 to the rocking beat of Devil May Cry all the way back to classics of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon, I aim to play from a variety of media. Here we will discuss videogames, comic books, books without pictures, (those sometimes great) book to movie adaptations, and animated tv shows (including those from Japan). I also talk about art and storytelling in these mediums as well. Website: https://www.deviantart.com/ladycrysanthemum
