Formed in 1999, The Thing made their start performing covers of the music of virtuoso Jazz trumpeter Don Cherry before quickly expanding their repertoire to include a broad range of genres. The trio has since released numerous albums and collaborated with a variety of other musicians, evolving into a group that eludes simple description. Composed of Mats Gustafsson (saxophones), Ingebrigt Haker Flaten (bass), and Paal Nilssen-Love (drums), The Thing now has its own record label, controlling all aspects of the music.
