Tom Hiddleston takes centre stage as country music legend and legendary renegade Hank Williams. In turns as rambunctious as a barn dance and reflective as a ballad, this adaptation of Colin Escott’s definitive biography chronicles Williams’ rapid ascent to stardom, his whirlwind romance with Audrey May (Elizabeth Olsen) and the tragedy of a life and career cut short by substance abuse and complications from spinal bifida. Laid to rest at only 29, Williams left behind a truly remarkable body of work that saw a staggering 35 Top 10 singles released in only six years. Hiddleston handles his own singing chores here and does the man—and his music—proud.
