CFUV Does Levitation Vancouver 2016! Saturday

Written by on 06/20/2016

Thank You Trevor for your coverage of Levitation Vancouver!
And also Thank You Levitation Vancouver for allowing CFUV to be there!

This is the beginning of whats shaping up to be sweet summer of festivals!

HERE WE GO:

“Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom was host to the second day of Levitation yesterday, bringing in a great line-up of reverberated garage rock, and hectic freak outs. With the gloomy weather and constant rain outside, the indoor venue seemed welcome once Cherry Glazerr took the stage, and Hinds soon after. Both streaming a positive, upbeat vibe that got the audience warmed up for Thee Oh Sees. The band brought in their insane psyched out style of punk that is hard to describe, even for fans of the group, and had everyone bouncing across the venue. Following was the gravely croons of The Growlers, who pleased the crowd with familiar tunes in their droll, surfy vibes. Finally, headlining the evening was Flying Lotus bringing his unique experiments in to electronic and dance music, setting the audience in a trance.

Meanwhile, venues across the downtown core, cater

to different genres and styles, were filling up. Having visual artists interacting with the music over the weekend was a huge improvement to shows often held in the city where the norm is usually a backdrop and perhaps some video projections. Mad Alchemy moved in to the much larger space of the Rickshaw, where the audience had

a chance to see the capabilities of the artist on a larger scale. Even outside of the much smaller Cobalt, the projections were still engulfing. More recently formed groups like Holy Wave, and Brazilian band Boogarins fit perfectly with Morgan Delt the well established Dead Meadow, all producing a specific style of effect-driven jams covered in droning fuzz.

To end off the weekend, the Cobalt is holding the last show of the festival to make the come down a little easier. Plenty of up beat garage rock with lo-fi, 60’s flavour will make for a perfect end to this year’s Levitation. Even through the venue changes, artists being rescheduled, and dropping off, and other issues, the Western B.C. take on the Austin festival proved to be successful and will hopefully be around in the future!

Peace out Levitation, its been real! Until next year!
