FernFest – June 20 & 21

FERN FEST 2008: Fernwood Celebrates Community
Fernwood Square & the Vic High Field * June 20 and 21, 2008

Join Fernwood NRG for a celebration of community in Fernwood, Friday-Saturday June 20th and 21st.

On Friday June 20, start the weekend with some of the best music the Island has to offer including 22-year-old Cree breakout-artist, Niska Napoleon, headliner Dead Reckoning and introducing music from the new Cornerstone Collective Records.

Saturday June 21 is community family day with 12 hours of non-stop games, sports and art activities for both big and little kids starting at 10am with a free pancake breakfast hosted by The Fernwood Inn. After charming audiences last year, Shoshana the Storyteller returns for two appearances. Also back are the bouncy castle and free afternoon tea for seniors. New attractions at Fern Fest include the Victoria Firefighters – who bring their Junior Combat Challenge - and the Vic High Dancers, “Platform 61,” who bring their high energy moves to the sports field lawn. You can take a guided tour of Fernwood’s latest affordable housing success story Park Place on Yukon Street, and enjoy the 1st Annual Fernwood Art Stroll happening in conjunction with Fern Fest. The NRG beer garden and BBQ are open all day.

FernFest concludes Satuday with performances by Palomitas de Maiz, Los Gringos Locos, Ucluelet’s roots-rock Left at the Junction, Fernwoodian John Gogo’s FernFest debut, the musical comedy of the Flying Barista Brothers, Boxcar bluegrass and a Dead Reckoning.
