In recognition of Remembrance Day, CFUV 101.9 FM, Victoria’s campus/ community radio station, is presenting a four hour program of readings and music. The broadcast is scheduled to air Tuesday 11th November from 10am-2pm, as a tribute to victims of war.

The readings range from the ancient Greek to the modern day. Featured writers include Herodotus, Voltaire, Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, George Bernard Shaw, George Orwell, and selected war poets. Sixteen volunteer readers have taken part.

Music ranges from the Renaissance period to the modern day. Listen to pieces by Lully, Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Satie, Respighi, Ravel, and Vaughan Williams. Song recordings include Major Michael Mitchell (Canadian Militia), Chor Leoni men’s choir of Vancouver, and Kathryn Humphries from Victoria.

The program will incorporate a 2-minute silence at 11:00, preceded by the National Anthem and “The Last Post,” and followed by “Reveille.”

CFUV’s mandate includes the encouragement of innovative work, and use of local resources and volunteers. This broadcast brings together voices and musicians from the Victoria community in a creative and meaningful presentation.

CFUV can be heard on radio at 101.9FM, on cable 104.3, or on the Internet at cfuv.uvic.ca.
