Fundrive Prize Spotlight: The Doors on Sullivan – Commemorative Converse Sneakers c/o Baggins Shoes

Just one of the many prizes donated by local businesses for CFUV’s Fundrive this year is a pair of Converse sneakers from BAGGINS SHOES on Johnson Street in Victoria, BC.
This isn’t your average pair of “chucks”. These sneakers were inspired by The Doors’ infamous 1967 performance on the Ed Sullivan Show. The performance on Sullivan’s show was their first–and their last on that program. After promising not to use the word “higher” since it could be interpreted as a drug reference, Jim proceeded with the original version of the song to the chagrin of Sullivan and producers. They were never invited back. The patchwork on the shoes is inspired by the background of the Sullivan set for their performance: a series of overlapping brightly -colored “doors”.
