For the Love of Ruins

Host: James V.

Description: Imagine, after an arduous trek through the jungle, the initial reaction of those stumbling upon an ancient temple, or the wonder of “travelling to the continent” in the 19th century to sketch Roman columns amidst the stalls of a peasant market, or gazing upon the crater where once the towers of the World Trade Centre once stood. Our world is built upon the ruins of the old. Along with explorers and travellers, artists have witnessed the demise of worlds by supplanting old ways of seeing and understanding with their vibrant visions of another. A ruin of a cultural artefact may pertain as much to an idea as a piece of marble. The hosts of For the Love of Ruins seek to share in the wonder of discovering the past by exploring the artistic pleasures of creation in the present.
