The Above Average Duckling

Hosted by:

Genre:

  • Rock

Host: Tyler

Description: Consider this show to be “rock adjacent”. You may not headbang to these songs in a smoky garage, but these sorts of eclectic, often oddball artists inspire the bands you love. Maybe the lyrics won’t make sense. Maybe there’s some uncomfortably saccharine pop thrown in the mix. Maybe there’s an off-key bicycle horn. It’s all part of the magic.

      • Tyler says: November 23, 2016

Hey Shelby. Wowee. I guess I have to start checking this page now.

That would appear to be May by Maggy France. Hope I got the right tune. Thanks for listening!

      Hello,
You played a really groovy funk tune at about 8:55 am today – Just wondering what the name was? It’s really too bad that CFUV doesn’t keep an updated track listing that is current with the show on air. It would make it a lot easier to find out such simple information. I phoned in to find out the name of the song but was 10 mins too late and the DJ of the next morning show could not pull up the information. Now I must drive through the day without the funk in my trunk…

        Howdy, fellow duckling!

I ended Friday’s show with a real oddball Buckethead tune called Beaten with Sledges, then I threw in Them Changes by Thundercat as a bonus
(read: I still had several minutes left). Thundercat is always reliable.

So it would have been one of those, and based on the funk description, it was probably Thundercat.

Blasting your music helped scare a bear away!!!

      • Tyler says: July 29, 2017

Aw man. I had hoped my show was bear-friendly.

Tanks again for always putting on a FAB show

What was that, like, perhaps the third song in, you played? After the song that said “it’s all coming down”, but after that song…in a minor key, something about “free”. Kinda heavy head banger?

    11. t c says: September 8, 2017

….the f no we won’t be found song? Who sings that please?

      • Tyler says: September 13, 2017

I reeeeeeeeeally need to check this page more.

That was a band out of Kelowna called D.F.Y. I think they’ve been defunct for a few years now.

    12. t c says: September 8, 2017

Wow, was that “olifrofro” song in 5/4 time? Very different

    13. Albert says: November 18, 2017

I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m a below average duckling, but I’m cool with that.

This is my favourite segment on CFUV! It’s all good, but I vibe with you guys.
