On Wednesday February 20th 2013 from 7:00pm – 9:00pm CFUV will broadcast a special concert in partnership with the UVic School of Music.

The two performers include winners of the Judith Harreman Scholarship in Music awarded annually by the Canadian Federation of University Women, Victoria (CFUW). Jenny Chang is a 4th year piano performance major at UVic. Chance Lovett is a jazz singer from Camosun.

The performance is FREE to attend and takes place in the Philip T. Young Recital Hall at UVic in the MacLaurin Building.

The Judith Harreman Scholarship in Music:

The Judith Harreman Scholarship in Music was first presented in 1986.  It is awarded annually by the Canadian Federation of University Women, Victoria (CFUW) to an outstanding female student proceeding to her third or fourth year in the music programme at the University of Victoria.  Preference is given to a student specializing in voice or piano.

Judith Harreman, for whom this scholarship is named, was born in Medicine Hat in 1939.  Judith graduated from the University of Alberta with a BA in Social Science.  She was a member of CFUW clubs in Edmonton, Moose Jaw and Victoria.  She died in Victoria in 1985. Judith was a friendly and unassuming person whose quiet, pleasant manner endeared her to many people.  She gave freely of her time and talents in pursuit of music and in support of the Club’s Scholarship and Bursary Society.  It is most fitting that the Canadian Federation of University Women, Victoria honour Judith’s memory with the Judith Harreman Scholarship in Music.
