Food for the Future: Save the Agricultural Land Reserve – Mon Feb 10
Written by CFUV Communications on 02/05/2014
Beginning at noon on Monday, Feb 10 (Family Day), there will be a rally to save the Agricultural Land Reserve.
“We need a reliable supply of farmland to grow food now and for the future – as the benefits of local food systems and the challenges of global transport become clear.”
So get on your rally shoes and head down to the Legislature on Feb 10 to support the ‘Food For the Future’ Rally!
The Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) was created 40 years ago to maintain farmland for food production and the BC government is considering making drastic changes to it and the commission entrusted to protect it.
The rally hopes to bring attention to the fact that only 5% of the landbase of mountainous BC is suitable for farming and needs to be protected.
