Rifflandia Friday: Rolling in the Right Direction

Written by on 09/19/2015

Despite the rocky start with no Chromeo and the rain lurking over the festival, the energy stayed high with amazing performers and an excited crowd! I would like to start with the last minute change on the main stage, Jazz Cartier.

After Jazz putting on a killer set at Phillips Backyard on Thursday evening, it was quite fitting that he would be given the chance to fill the main stage. His hard trap rap is not for everyone, however he was able to recreate that amazing energy from the previous night. From standing on the audience’s hands to flaunting his Vancouver Canuck jersey, the crowd gave him what he needed to put on a great show. Even with many people asking, “Who is this?”  Jazz came through with a great show!

Finishing the night on the main stags was The Arkells from Ontario. They commanded the stage, as they casually walked to their instruments and instantly went into song with confidence. They came to give people a good time and they delivered.  They had the whole crowd singing the words and dancing to every song, a great way to head into the night events!

Last night was absolutely crazy! The night was filled with great music and a ton of dancing. My friends and I walked to multiple places (Capital Iron, Lucky’s, Wolf/Sheep) and all the venues had such great vibes. The Librarian at Lucky’s threw on some amazing beats and had everyone getting down and funking. Capital Iron had amazing dancing, even in the rain! Is was great to see all these happy people just out to have some fun. To end the night was a much more lowkey Wolf/Sheep. The walls covered in art and projectors all over created an awesome atmosphere! Watching the DJ’s however was my favorite part of the evening, seeing people in their element and just grooving is why I love festivals like Rifflandia!

All I can say is that I am super excited to see how the rest of the festival unfolds! If it was anything like Friday, today and Sunday are going to be awesome!

(A tip for night events, if the venue does stamps, go early in the night and get the stamp so if you want to go back later, there is no waiting in line)
