Rhizome Day Camp

Written by on 07/25/2012

Project Respect (initiative of the Women’s Sexual Assault Centre) will be holding a youth-led social action day camp called Rhizome. Rhizome is a space for youth to meet up and network with other youth from Victoria to explore how sexualized violence happens in their lives and communities, and how we can prevent/end it. Youth will learn to use different forms of multi-media such as film, dance, skillscreening, and spoken word poetry to create social action that addresses sexualized violence in the community. Rhizome’s goal is to provide a safer space free from racism, homo &trans  phobia, sexism, ableism, classism and other forms of discrimination. It’s a space for youth to share their perspectives, feel empowered, and create a change in the community.

Rhizome will be held August 7-11 (Tuesday – Saturday) from 1:00pm – 7:00pm at the Community of Conscience Living (111 Superior Street) and is for youth between the ages of 14-19 of any gender. The camp is free to attend and funds for childcare and transportation are available.

They will also be holding a parent and youth information session at the women sexual assault center on July 30th from 5:30pm to 8pm.
