Vancouver Island Music Awards Need Community’s Help

Written by on 07/25/2012

The Producers of the Vancouver Island Music Awards are putting out a formal call to the Vancouver Island community to help keep the annual music event alive. The event, colloquially nicknamed “Vancouver Island’s Junos,” has run 8 of the past 11 years since its inaugural ceremony in 2002.

Despite strong interest from the Island’s musicians and media from the outset, all 8 years of the event have struggled financially, and it has reached the point where community support is required in order for the production to stay afloat. VIMA Producers have set a goal of $100 from each of 50 Vancouver Island businesses before September 1st. If the production can raise enough funds to continue, the Artist Call for Submissions period will commence September 1st, and the 2013 VIMAs will take place in April 2013. Host city TBA.

The Vancouver Island Music Awards is currently accepting much-needed donations at www.kapipal.com/vimas. Over the next 5 weeks, Vancouver Island businesses and music supporters are encouraged to contribute any amount to this local grassroots cultural initiative. Businesses who donate will receive advertising with the 2013 event. All donors will get tax receipts as well as be eligible for the VIMA prize package draw.

Let’s keep the Vancouver Island Music Awards alive!
